Statistics for 2010 of the Bulgarian Patent Office
Hereto below are the official statistics of the Bulgarian Patent Office for the year of 2010, concerning various objects of intellectual property.
PATENTS
- 260 applications for inventions:
-242 filed by Bulgarian applicants
-18 filed by foreign applicants;
- 1427 applications for validation of European patents;
- 10 applications for supplementary protection certificates (SPC).
UTILITY MODELS
- 178 utility model applications
- 3 filed through the Patent Cooperation Treaty – PCT.
INDUSTRIAL DESIGNS
- 202 applications for registration of national industrial designs (93 less than in 2009):
- 200 in the name of Bulgarian applicants
- 2 in the name of foreign applicants
- 34 applications filed under the Hague Agreement (HA)
- 295 decisions issued on applications for registration of industrial designs:
- 263 – national;
- 32 – international, under the Hague System;
- 181 industrial designs were granted protection:
– 149 – national;
– 32 – international.
TRADEMARKS
- 4860 national trademark applications (5% decrease as compared to 2009)|:
- 4335 filed by Bulgarian applicants;
- 525 filed by foreign applicants.
- International registration, in accordance with the Madrid Agreement (MA) and the Protocol, was requested for:
- 2235 applications for international registration of marks, in accordance with the Madrid Agreement and the Protocol thereto (22% less than in 2009: 2853);
- 238 filed by Bulgarian applicants (in 2009 – 300);
- 49 applications for territorial extension (in 2009 – 65).
Decisions issued by the BPO in 2010 with regard to trademarks:
- 3975 decisions for registration of national trademarks;
- 2490 decisions for registration of international trademarks for the territory of Bulgaria, in accordance with the MA and the Protocol;
- 1659 decisions for refusal of registration of national trademark applications;
- 829 decisions for refusal of registration of trademark applications filed under the MA and the Protocol.
- 29 petitions for recognition of trademarks as well-known and marks having reputation for the territory of Bulgaria:
- 22 decisions issued:
- 19 – for recognition;
- 3 – for refusal of the petitions.
Number of registered national trademarks for the territory of Bulgaria until December 31, 2010 – 54568:
- 33824 – in the name of Bulgarian applicants;
- 20774 – in the name of foreign applicants.
GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATIONS
- 9 applications for registration of geographical indications.
PLANT VARIETIES and ANIMAL BREEDS
- 85 applications for registration of new plant varieties and animal breeds (in 2009 – 64):
- 83 – for new plant varieties
- 2 – for animal breeds.
All of the above applications were filed by Bulgarian applicants.
MISCELLANEOUS
- 238 checks for administrative violations;
- 166 statements of administrative offence;
- 240 penal rulings;
- 142 447 seized goods;
- 200 expert opinions and references prepared for the prosecution;
- 169 expert opinions prepared for the needs of administrative penal proceedings.
The fines and penalties paid by perpetrators with regard to enforced penal rulings amount to 45 248 BGN.
